Christmas spirit comes to Kyiv later than usual advent in the West, however, stays longer. Mid-December to mid or late January you can enjoy holiday atmosphere with a touch of local traditions. To make your Christmas experience in the city more intense, we suggest you take a look at all the possible festivals and markets Kyiv has to offer.

NeoNew Year and the biggest Christmas tree at St. Sophia square

At St. Sophia’s you will find a real Christmas tree that traveled all the way from the Carpathians. I will be decorated with neon lights of various colors and designs. Behind the tree, one will find the installation – an amphitheater that connects three kilometer long decorations. The market with food court, mullet wines and souvenirs will stretch up to St. Michael square, that will as well host the carousel and lighted up art objects.

Pere Noel Residency at VDNH

This winter Pere Noel (or rather Grandfather Frost how people call him here) will settle himself at VDNH exhibition center. His residency will look like a fairy tale amusement park, busy with its Christmas and New Year preparations, carried out by little elves.

The ‘Ice age’ at the ‘Singing field’

The ‘Singing field ’ will invite you to various winter activities: sledding, kids attractions, ice-flower and snow-sculpture exhibit. To warm yourself up in all this, you’ll be able to visit heated tents with food, drinks, and pastries. Get your cameras ready for pictures and have fun!

Christmas town at ‘Darynok’

Ice-skating, carousel, sledding and the enchanted forest – all this will be built at ‘Darynok’ market. Here you’ll be able to have fun and do some Christmas shopping all in one.

Winter land at VDNH

More than 20 locations for kids and adults will create the festive mood, entertain and feed. The entrance to VDNH park will remain free through all the winter. The free zones will also include: ‘Present corporation’ market with its glassblower show, warming up art pavilion, Ukrainian designers’ showroom with various workshops, photo zones, food court zone.
Additionally, VDNH will host several big paid zones.

Meeting St. Nikolas at Pyroghiv Open Air Museum

At the Museum you will be able to take an amazing tour that will help you to learn about old local Christmas and New Year traditions, to see yourself how Ukrainians used to decorate their houses for the holidays, and what was the main Christmas attribute here, before the tree was even introduced. You’ll see what people here considered to be festive amulets and rites. After the tour, you’ll meet an actual Saint Nikolas who always has some presents for kids stocked.

New Year Fairy-tale at ‘Kyiv Rus’ theme park

The ancient Kyiv place will have their own Grandfather Frost and Saint Nikolas. The guests will be able to put their letter into the magic wish-box and have an amazing photo shoot on the spot.
